Welcome to the Month of Taste 2009! Print E-mail
Saturday, 07 July 2007 09:54

The Month of Taste is a nationwide food festival designed to celebrate brilliant British local foods. Organised by FARMA, the National Farmers' Retail & Markets Association, the Month of Taste takes place in Farm Shops and on Pick Your Own farms, at Farmers' Markets and on-farm restaurants, and anywhere else you can find great, genuine British local food. This year's event runs from 13 June to 19 July when the fields are full of ripened fruit and fresh veg, from asparagus to squash. It's also a great time to enjoy fresh cheeses, handmade ice-cream, seasonal fish, Spring lamb, and the ubiquitous BBQ.

Farms and farmers' markets will be a hive of activity this summer, with events happening across the UK. We will be updating the website regularly with news, features, stories, recipes, and seasonal info.

Plus at only 26kcals per new potato they’re filling without piling on the pounds.

New potatoes make the best potato salads but they can also be baked, crushed, sautéed or simply boiled for a few minutes and served with butter. Ask for British new potatoes at your local supermarket or greengrocer.

Eat Seasonably

The FARMA Month of Taste is supporting "Eat Seasonably", a nationwide campaign to help you enjoy fruit and veg at its seasonal best. Eat Seasonably is backed by retailers large and small, cafes, pubs, restaurants, charities, chefs and leading food organisations.

The campaign is part of 'We Will If You Will’, a response to The Prime Minister from business and civil society, spearheaded by Fiona Reynolds (National Trust) and Ian Cheshire (B&Q). The aim is to deliver new and unique collaborative efforts to encourage more people to live more sustainable lifestyles. At the heart of the initiative will be an unprecedented coalition of NGOs and businesses committed to delivering practical solutions to consumers and communities. www.wewillifyouwill.org

What 'Eat Seasonably' means for you is better labelling and clearer signposting of when fruits and vegetables are in season, as well as promotions and offers to make them even more tasty. Plus there are events all summer to get involved in.
